Non-Surgical Treatment of Gum Disease

Dr. Belz is proud to offer therapy for periodontal treatment. Scaling and root planning is one of the most popular non- surgical methods for treating gum disease.

Benefits:

With scaling and root planning or commonly known as deep cleaning there is a faster recovery time than there would be with a surgical method. There is no cutting of the gums or stitching needed. It has served to be a relatively painless and cost effective way to treating periodontal disease.

Uses:

It is used to fight periodontal disease, which affect the teeth and surrounding gums, targeting the build up of tartar and plaque. Scaling happens above the gum line, scraping to remove plaque and tartar. Root planning happens below the gum line, focusing on the roots, clearing and smoothing of the roots makes it more difficult for the plaque or tartar to build up.

A person’s risk of heart disease can be raised by chronic inflammation of the gums and supporting tissue if left untreated.
